PAGE DIRECTORY

AIRLINE DISCOUNTS

Special airfare discounts are available to you for flights to Seattle (SEA) on Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection, and Delta Codeshare Flights as well as with United Airlines and their Codeshare Partners.

Find all the details and booking links/codes HERE.

BEDS

We’ll provide Holland America Line with your bed configuration preferences. The beds in the stateroom can either be set up as one larger bed or split into two separate beds. When you first get to your stateroom, if your bed isn’t configured as you wish, simply ask your Stateroom Attendant to reconfigure it and they’ll either put them together to form the larger bed or break them apart to form two smaller beds.

CELLULAR SERVICES AT SEA

To avoid exorbitant mobile service charges while at sea, we recommend turning your phone to Airplane Mode when we’re not docked. If you don’t, you’ll automatically connect to “Cellular At Sea,” which has truly astounding per-MB rates for data/calls. Even if you’re not actively searching the web, most phones automatically download emails and refresh webpages in the background, and that could easily escalate to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in extra mobile charges from your provider.

CHECKING IN WITH HOLLAND AMERICA IN ADVANCE

45 Days before the cruise, you’ll receive your Holland America Booking Number. This number allows you to check-in and book everything from beverage packages and spa services to specialty dining and excursions. Please note that this number is different than your VACAYA confirmation number and everyone in your stateroom has the same Holland America Booking Number. You can check in and book cruise extras online through July 24.

Before you begin, please have all the following information for ALL guests you’re checking in:

  • Holland America Booking Number
  • Full Legal Name
  • Passport Number
  • Passport Expiration Date
  • Home Address
  • Emergency Contact Name with Address and Phone Number
  • Flight Details (this is especially important for departures from Seattle on August 3; disembarkation time slots will be determined from this info)
  • Credit Card for your Onboard Expense Account

Once you’ve gathered all the information listed above, you’re ready to begin:

  • Go to https://www.hollandamerica.com/
  • Go to “Manage My Cruise”
  • Go to “Check-In”
  • Use right side of page – “Log In With Booking Number”
  • Enter your Booking Number
  • Enter your last name, first name, & validation question and hit “Log In”
  • Select all guests or which guest you’d like to check-in

Once you’ve entered this information and click “Log In,” you’ll see your Reservation Summary along with your room number. There are six steps you’ll need to complete. Please follow the instructions provided online. Once you’ve completed all the steps, proceed to print your Express Documents. Below are some helpful tips that may help during registration.

Go through the following steps to complete the online check-in:

  • Cruise Contract Form (accept the Holland America Terms and Conditions; must be completed prior to sailing)
  • Guest Info
  • Passport details
  • Flights
  • Contacts
  • Accounts (register credit card)
  • Cruise Contract Page – This will show who accepted the applicable Cruise Contract form for each guest. You’ll be able to click on this page to view the documents later if you wish to refer back to them.
  • Download the HAL Navigator App on your phone (iPhone or Android). You can retrieve your digital boarding pass via the app to expedite embarkation at the pier.
  • Click on documents and print documents. This is also where you can print luggage tags.

How to print cruise documents and Holland America luggage tags (available up to 72 hours prior to sailing):

  • Go to “Manage My Cruise”
  • Go to “Check-In”

  • Enter your last name, first name, & validation question and hit “Log In”
  • Select all guests or which guest you’d like to check-in
  • Go to last section – “Docs” to print out boarding pass and luggage tags

How to book shore excursions, specialty dining, spa reservations, and more:

  • Go to https://www.hollandamerica.com/
  • Go to “Manage My Cruise”
  • Under “Build Your Experience,” select the desired category
  • Use the right side of the page – “Log In With Booking Number”
  • Enter your Booking Number, your last name, first name, & validation question and hit “Log In”
  • You may search for shore excursions, spa reservations, beverage packages, gifts and indulgences, or book specialty dining reservations in advance.  Once you select the item you wish to book, click “add to cart” and check out. Your credit card will be charged and the activity will be added to your itinerary.
  • Reminder: shore excursions, spa, and specialty dining can also be booked via the HAL Navigator App.

IMPORTANT NOTE: VACAYA is unable to assist with technical issues with online check-in or the purchasing of extras. These systems are entirely run by Holland America. So, if you need assistance, please contact HAL directly at +1.877.724.5425 during standard US business hours. Also, please keep in mind that there may be a bug or two in the system as you try to navigate through the check-in or purchase process. Many times, if you log out and try again later, whatever hiccup was happening originally is no longer an issue.

CLOTHING OPTIONAL SUN DECK

If the summer weather is favorable, VACAYA anticipates we’ll be able to offer a small clothing optional space onboard where sun lovers can sunbathe in the nude. We hope to have details of the exact location shortly before the cruise. Assuming we have one, the clothing optional sun deck will ONLY be available on Sea Days. While in all of our ports, swimsuits are required on the upper decks.

And obviously… we ask that cameras not be used in this area.

COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRT DISTRIBUTION

We’re excited to gift each Vacayan with a special T-Shirt commemorating our Alaskan journey together.

Your V Team will distribute these T-Shirts on the following dates and times:

  • Day 2 – Monday, July 28 – 12pm-4pm – Lido Pool
  • Day 3 – Tuesday, July 29 – 11am-2pm – Lido Pool

Please note that in order to minimize the queue, the distribution tables will be set up with alphabetical signs based on last name: A-C, D-G, H-K, L-O, P-S, and T-Z. Please find your appropriate distribution lane and queue accordingly. Please note that you may pick up your roommate’s shirt and our team will check their name off as having received their shirt.

As a reminder, each guest has reported their T-Shirt size to us, and if not, the default size is Unisex Large. We are unable to do any size exchanges until the very end of distribution. If the size you’ve received doesn’t fit, please swing by the distribution tables between 1:45pm and 2pm (the final 15 minutes of T-Shirt Distribution) on Tuesday, July 29 and we’ll be happy to exchange your T-Shirt for a different size if we still have the requested size in stock.

After distribution wraps on these two days, any remaining T-Shirts will be sent to Westerdam’s Gift Shop for sale to anyone wishing to purchase an extra.  The retail price in the Gift Shop is $30 USD.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once the T-Shirts are given to the Gift Shop and inventoried for sale, we won’t be able to provide you with your complimentary shirt if you didn’t pick it up during the two days of distribution.

COVID VACCINATIONS

Vaccinated and unvaccinated guests are welcome to sail on this cruise. There is no testing requirement prior to sailing. Obviously, requirements could change at any time, and we will, of course, communicate any changes in protocols.

CURRENCY

US Dollars are accepted in all Alaskan ports of call. In Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the Canadian Dollar is the standard currency.

The current exchange rate is as follows:

1 USD = 1.35 CAD
1 CAD = 0.74 USD

1 EUR = 1,47 CAD
1 CAD = 0.68 EUR

For the most current exchange rates, we recommend https://www.xe.com/.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid passport is required of all travelers.

Visas are not required for US Citizens, but may be required of other nationalities.

Guests from countries that require a visa MUST obtain a valid visa before leaving home. Laws do not allow a guest who requires a visa to board the ship without required visa(s). SPECIAL NOTE: Even if you’re told you won’t need a visa if you plan to stay on the ship, this is NOT TRUE. If a visa is required of your nationality, you MUST have a visa even if you plan to stay on the ship.

United States Permanent Residents who possess an Alien Registration Card (Green Card) do NOT require a visa.

These travel documentation requirements are government regulations and policies. They are subject to change without notice. It is the sole responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available when necessary. These appropriate valid travel documents (such as passports and visas) are required for boarding, entry into other countries, and reentry into the United States.

We strongly recommend that all guests travel with a passport that’s valid for at least six (6) months beyond the end of their cruise. This greatly assists guests who may need to fly out of the United States to meet their ship at the next available port should they miss their scheduled embarkation in a U.S. port; guests entering the U.S. at the end of their cruise; and guests needing to fly to the U.S. before their cruise ends, because of medical, family, personal, or business emergencies, missing a ship’s departure from a port of call, involuntary disembarkation from a ship due to misconduct, or other reasons.

The name on your VACAYA reservation must match the name on your passport or other identification documents.

Guests who do not possess the proper documentation will be denied boarding.

Unfortunately, no refunds will be given to individuals who are denied boarding due to improper documentation.

DRESS CODE

Summers in Alaska can provide quite a temperature and precipitation journey, with great variances over the course of the day. Layering is the key to happiness.

DAY: The average highs in this region during July/August are in the mid 60s Fahrenheit and around 18 Celsius. That being said, we’ve seen highs in the low 80s on past trips, as well as highs in the low 50s. You’ll want to bring a hefty windbreaker and raincoat, regardless.

NIGHT: VACAYA’s dress code is “Evening Chic” – smart and stylish. But what does that actually mean?

Dress pants/designer jeans, collared shirts, cocktail dresses, and skirts with a nice top fit the bill perfectly.

We never want to limit your creative freedom as far as dress is concerned, so know that there are no hard and fast rules in regard to what’s acceptable and what’s not. But here are some specific recommendations that will help you decide what’s most appropriate for Wsterdam’s elegant and casual dining spaces throughout the evening:

  • Tank Tops in the Main Restaurants for dinner aren’t the best choice. Let’s be real… only a few of us (and we applaud you fetishists) would want to see a hairy armpit while enjoying filet mignon and lobster.
  • Dress Shorts are ok in the Main Restaurants for dinner. Swimsuits are not.
  • Dress Sandals are ok in all restaurants for dinner. Flip-flops? Not so much.
  • If you’d like to keep your dress super casual for dinner, Lido Market provides a perfect dining choice. And flip-flops are a-ok around the clock in Lido Market.
  • Shorts and T-shirts are discouraged in the elevated dining experiences of Pinnacle Grill, Rudi’s Sel de Mar, Taste of De Librije, or Canaletto.

PARTIES: Our theme parties will provide you with endless opportunities to show off your style with imaginative costumes. Just keep in mind that your penis and balls and your vagina have to be covered (unless otherwise noted). But by all means don’t be afraid of the exciting world of sheer fabrics… we love them! Because Lido Market will be open late into the night (and we know you’re going to want a burger at 2am), we ask that if you’re wearing a costume that exposes your butt cheeks, that you wrap a towel around yourself while dining. Towels will be available near the entrance of the dining hall.

THE POOL DECK: Just like with the men, women are allowed to use the Lido Pool or Sea View Pool topless. If anyone would like to sunbathe fully nude, please use our Clothing Optional Sun Deck while at sea. Please note that nude sunbathing is not allowed on the Clothing Optional Sun Deck when we’re docked alongside the pier.

GETTING TO WESTERDAM ON JULY 27

Westerdam will be docked at the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, Pier 91, located at 2001 West Garfield Street,Seattle, WA 98119.

As always, the pier assignment can change at any time. Please check the board as you enter the port to confirm the docking position.

The terminal is scheduled to open around 10:30am, but boarding will not begin until Noon. Please note there’s limited seating available inside the terminal. With Holland America’s advanced systems, it shouldn’t take more than a couple hours to get everyone through the terminal and onto Westerdam.

IMPORTANT: All bags must have luggage tags with your stateroom number on them. You can print these at home from HAL’s Navigator App or their website. If you don’t do this in advance, no worries; there’s a kiosk just outside the terminal where you can get them (look for the sign that says “Westerdam Luggage Tags”). If you don’t remember your stateroom number, the HAL rep at the luggage tag kiosk has a manifest and can give it to you.

Dropping off your luggage directly with HAL is easy and can be done inside the terminal. Just be sure to have your passport, wallet, medication, and any valuables in your hand luggage before handing over your larger bags. When entering the terminal with your bags, look for the queue marked “Luggage Drop.” If you’d prefer, you can hire a porter to take your tagged luggage before going into the terminal ($2-3 per bag is the usual gratuity).

Once you’ve handed over your luggage, you’ll be directed to the Security queue where your hand-carried items will be scanned.

Once through Security, you’ll be directed to HAL’s facial recognition check-in kiosks, and you’ll need your passport in-hand. After this process, you’ll be directed to a waiting area until the ship opens for embarkation (if arriving before Noon). From here, all you’ll need is your Boarding Pass, which you can access electronically from the Navigator App, print at home and bring with you, or, if you can’t do either of those two things, a HAL rep inside the terminal can print it for you. Your boarding pass will be scanned as you enter the ship.

Please note when checking in at the terminal kiosks, you will NOT receive your room key at this point. Instead, your room key will be in an envelope on your stateroom door. Once onboard, feel free to swing by your room to pick it up so you’re ready to make on board purchases. Please keep in mind that staterooms are anticipated to be ready at 1pm. A ship-wide announcement will be made as soon as they’re ready for occupancy.

All aboard is 2pm, with Westerdam setting sail for Alaska at 3pm sharp.

GRATUITIES

100% of your prepaid gratuities go to onboard staffers, including your stateroom attendant, the culinary services staff, the behind-the-scenes hotel services staff, and the myriad department heads who work with their teams around the clock to create a flawless VACAYA experience for you.

A 20% gratuity is added to all beverage purchases, specialty dining purchases, and spa/salon services. If you purchase one of Holland America’s Beverage Packages, remember that you’ve already paid the gratuity when purchasing your package. No further gratuity is required, but additional gratuities are always appreciated.

A Note About Additional Tipping: As a community, we are extremely generous. We eagerly recognize outstanding individual service with a few extra dollars here and there. Of course, no extra monetary recognition is ever required, but when you take the time to say “thank you” and offer that 3am room service attendant or your favorite bartender a couple dollars, know that it’s always immensely appreciated by the crew members you recognize.

INTERNATIONAL VACAYANS ON BOARD MEETUP

For all our fabulous guests with non-US passports, we’ve got something special just for you – a one-of-a-kind meetup onboard!

Join us for an evening where borders blur and friendships ignite – all in the vibrant atmosphere of Westerdam’s comfy Gallery Bar. Mark your calendars for the following:

🗓 When: Monday 28 July
⏰ Time: 20:00
🍹 Where: Gallery Bar (Deck 2)

Come as you are, or celebrate your home country with a fun outfit. Anything goes! No RSVP needed – just bring your adventurous spirit, your brightest smile, and your love of new connections.

Who knows? You might leave with a new friend, a “cheers!” in a different language… Prost! Salud! Skål!, or even a future travel buddy!

INTERNET ACCESS

We’ll have full Wi-Fi package details/pricing available to you approximately 45 days before our departure date.

ITINERARY UPDATE

As stated on the trip’s homepage, “While we work tirelessly to craft the perfect itinerary for each trip, it’s always subject to change based on weather, sea, and myriad other conditions.”

Some slight modifications to our itinerary have been made to provide you with an even better experience. The new itinerary is as follows:

Of course, our itinerary is still subject to change at any time up to and including our sailing. We highly recommend booking excursions through Holland America where you’re fully protected in the cases of itinerary shifts. Please keep in mind that neither VACAYA nor Holland America bear any responsibility if the itinerary changes and you can’t make a privately-booked excursion.

MARKETPLACE

For all the latest VACAYA gear (or V-Gear, as we call it) – from T-shirts and hoodies to coffee mugs and hats – visit our online marketplace…

SHOP TILL YOU DROP AT THE VACAYA MARKETPLACE

LANYARDS

When boarding Westerdam, you’ll be greeted by several V Team members who’ll give you a choice of 3 different colored lanyards – red, yellow, or green. Not only will the lanyard hold your room key card (especially helpful when in a swimsuit without pockets), but it’ll also help tell a part of your story at a glance:

RED – I’m happily taken and off the market, but definitely open to new friends.

YELLOW – I’m magical and mysterious. Ask for my deets.

GREEN – I’m open and ready to mingle.

We recognize you’ll be making a lanyard decision on Day 1 that might look a little different by Day 3. If you decide later that you’d like a different color, please swing by the VACAYA Hospitality Desk when open (hours are listed in your daily program) and we’ll be happy to offer an alternative while supplies last.

LUGGAGE HANDLING & ISSUES

If your luggage doesn’t arrive with you at the airport, be sure to file a claim with your airline and make sure they understand you’re getting on a cruise ship. It’s also wise to provide them with a copy of your itinerary. Once onboard Westerdam, be sure to let the Guest Services Team know your bag has been delayed. This will help immensely in getting your bags to our ever-moving ship.

When you arrive at the Seattle Cruise Ship Terminal, you will hand off your luggage to the porters at the taxi drop-off. Before handing off your bags, be sure each bag is properly tagged to your stateroom. When you check in online in advance of the cruise, you’ll also be able to print luggage tags. We recommend waiting to arrive in Seattle BEFORE placing those tags on your luggage. This will help ensure they don’t get ripped off during your flights.

It usually takes between 4-6 hours from the moment you hand over your luggage to the pier-side porters until the bags arrive to your stateroom. If your luggage hasn’t arrived by 8pm, reach out to Guest Services on Deck 1 mid-ship. They will do their best to track down your bags. Usually, the reason for a piece of luggage not making its way to your room is that the identifying tag was ripped off at some point in the transfer from pier to ship. These untagged bags are placed in corral awaiting identification.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Basic medical services are available onboard. The Medical Center is located on A Deck forward on the port side, right off the fwd public elevators. Their opening hours will be posted in the ship’s daily program, When and Where. 24-hour emergency services are also available.

VACAYA recommends that you consult with your primary physician before sailing if you’re experiencing any serious or chronic medical issues. The onboard medical team can provide basic services for illnesses/injuries that may occur onboard. They are also able to diagnose and stabilize most emergency situations. If you require emergency services that can only be provided by a shore-side facility, transfers can be arranged. Please note, however, that while sailing, transfers may be affected by weather or other logistical considerations.

Quarantines: The health and safety of guests and crew is of paramount importance. And on rare occasions, the medical team may decide your condition requires you to be quarantined to your room. This is most common when highly contagious gastrointestinal illnesses like Norovirus are diagnosed. We’ve all heard the stories of hundreds of cruise passengers falling ill with stomach issues like Norovirus and the like. Based on Center for Disease Control guidelines, quarantine is the medical team’s best defense in stopping the spread of viruses such as this. If you’re quarantined, we will do our very best to make you as comfortable as possible for the duration of your quarantine.

MEETUPS

VACAYA is all about connections. And we’ll host different professional and interest group meetups throughout the week, giving you the chance to come together with others who share like interests. We’ll also host twice-daily 12-step meetings. It’s time to make some new friends!

PARTY THEMES

Our promise is to ALWAYS have party themes for our Big-Ship Cruises and Resort vacations to you 120 days before our time together. That day is Saturday, March 29! So here are your PARTY THEMES!

Day 1 – July 27 @ 3pm – Sea View Pool
THIS IS ME SAIL-AWAY PARTY
Our signature Day 1 get-to-know-your-fellow-Vacayans party gets a beautiful sail-away twist as we make our way from Seattle up Puget Sound to Alaska (with GORGEOUS views of downtown and Mt. Rainier thrown in for good measure). Wear a little somethin’ somethin’ that lets us know who you are and where you’re from as we say goodbye to The Emerald City.

Day 1 – July 27 @ 10:30pm – Lido Pool
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE PARTY – OH, CANADA!
How much do we love Canada and Canadians? With tonight’s party, we get to show them ALL the love! Think maple syrup, hockey, poutine, Tim Horton’s, Mounties, moose, and good old red and white. You’ve got this, eh?

Day 2 – July 28 @ 4pm – Lido Pool
GS STOPLIGHT V-DANCE
We’re kicking off everyone’s favorite season early this year with a tribute to the comfiest (and many think sexiest) pants around… GRAY SWEATPANTS! Up top, wear a GREEN shirt if you’re ready to mingle. RED if you’re off the market. Or YELLOW if you’re somewhere magically in between.

Day 2 – July 28 @ 10:30pm – Lido Pool
WILD LIFE
Ok, all you Bears, Otters, Wolves, Foxes, Beavers, and Animal Lovers, THIS party is for you! Tap into your animal instincts as we celebrate the wild and fantastical world of fetishes with a beastly spin!

Day 3 – July 29 @ 10pm – Upper Decks
BLACKOUT
Once you’re back on board from your Juneau adventures, slip into a cozy onesie for the evening and wear it all night long. It’ll keep you nice and warm as you head up to the upper decks where we’re turning off the lights, opening the Magradome roof, and pairing the starry sky with an inspiring celestial soundtrack. Grab a cocktail with friends on the top decks and enjoy this mid-week chill out. If you just can’t shake that need to move, our DJ will bring the Crow’s Nest to life with late-night dance mixes starting at 11:30pm.

Day 4 – July 30 @ 4pm – Lido Pool
WOOD V-DANCE
>Today, we’re celebrating Alaska’s Lumberjacks and Lumberjanes! And no matter how you identify, it’s time to get your wood on at this campy forest and plaid-inspired V-Dance.

Day 4 – July 30 @ 10:30pm – Lido Pool
GOLD RUSH
There’s gold in them thar hills! So, deck yourself out in gold and hit the upper decks as we turn back the clock to the Solid Gold era (that’s the 80s y’all)!

Day 5 – July 31 @ 10:30pm – Lido Pool
ICE ICE BABY
It’s a night of cool vibes and hot beats as we celebrate not only Alaska’s beauty, but our favorite songs and divas from the 90s.

Day 6 – August 1 @ 10:30pm – Lido Pool
NORTHERN LIGHTS
It’s time to light up the night… literally! This electrifying dance party is your chance to shine bright. So, come decked out in your most eye-catching, light-up attire. Think LED accessories, glow sticks, and illuminating outfits that mimic the mesmerizing kaleidoscopic colors of the aurora!

Day 7 – August 2 @ 5pm – Sea View Pool
SHE’S A MESS SAIL-AWAY V-DANCE
Our favorite party of the week gets paired with our sail-away from Victoria, and you know what to do… throw on one piece from every costume you’ve worn this week and hit the upper decks for our final and messiest party of the cruise!

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY ONBOARD

Guests looking to preserve their cruise memories may encounter onboard photo and video documentarians in the form of the Holland America Line photo team and the VACAYA media team.

For the most immediate access to photos from your vacation, look out for the HAL-badged photographers onboard. HAL offers an extensive range of photography services for guests to capture and preserve memories of their cruise. Trained photographers are on hand to capture every special moment of the vacation, from formal portraits to candid shots around the ship. There are a variety of packages available, ranging from single prints to digital packages, to cater to different budgets and preferences. Special events, such as parties and shore excursions, can also be commemorated with specially designed photo packages. The photos are captured using high-quality cameras and equipment, ensuring they are of professional quality. The photo desk staff, located on Deck 3 Aft is available to assist guests in choosing the right package and scheduling a photo session that fits their schedule.

VACAYA also has a media team onboard to document the overall guest experience for our photo and video archives. The main goal of this team is to showcase the VACAYA brand to current and potential guests through our website, social media, and marketing communications. Their work is critical in helping us achieve our vision of becoming the #1 global brand in LGBT+ vacations. While they’ll be capturing the guest experience, it’s important to keep in mind that they are not specifically there to serve as individual photographers for guests. If you’re looking for personal photos and videos from your vacation, the HAL photo team is available to provide professional photography services and capture stunning, high-quality memories of your time onboard.

At VACAYA and Holland America Line, we understand some guests may prefer not to have their photos taken during their cruise. We respect your privacy and your right to decline photography services. If you prefer not to participate in either the HAL photo services or the VACAYA media team’s documentation of the guest experience, simply let our photographers or media team members know your preference.

REACHOUT

A VERY SPECIAL REACHOUT OPPORTUNITY

Many of our beloved Vacayans knew and loved Eduardo Rodríguez – a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Although we lost this beautiful soul earlier this year, his radiant spirit continues to shine brightly in all of us. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for dogs and life left an indelible mark on everyone he touched.

Eduardo’s heart was enormous. He was a passionate dog lover, fostering countless rescue dogs. His home was a sanctuary, a safe haven for rescued pups like Dino, Bella, Jack, Louie, Agnes, and Vince. And his partnership with Jade’s Legacy was a true labor of love. Eduardo tirelessly worked with John, Jade’s Legacy’s founder, to rescue, care for, and rehome dogs in need, always giving his all to make a difference.

His adventures took him around the globe, with one of his most cherished highlights being fulfilling his lifelong dream of visiting Antarctica with VACAYA – an experience that perfectly embodied his spirit of exploration and love.

Eduardo’s hugs, which were always given with his whole soul, left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to receive them. His kindness and joy for life will forever inspire us.

Eduardo is survived by his loving partner, Matthew, who’s traveling with us to Alaska. We’ll all feel Eduardo’s absence deeply, but we know his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched – especially the many beautiful pups he helped rescue and care for.

In Eduardo’s honor, VACAYA is proud to support Jade’s Legacy through our ReachOUT initiative. Jade’s Legacy is dedicated to rescuing dogs, providing training and socialization, and ultimately placing them in loving foster and forever homes. Their mission is to save lives and give dogs a second chance, and they do so with tireless dedication despite limited resources.

To help keep Eduardo’s incredible work alive and thriving, we invite every Vacayan to give as generously as you can. Your contribution can help save countless more dogs and honor Eduardo’s everlasting legacy of love, compassion, and adventure. Together, let’s ensure his spirit continues to inspire and transform lives for many years to come.

You can learn more about Jade’s Legacy and donate HERE.

SAVE THE DATE: We invite those who knew Eduardo to join us in Westerdam’s Gallery Bar on Friday, Aug 1 at 4pm as we celebrate and remember this incredible man.

RED LIGHT DISTRICT

Our Red Light District will be open nightly (with the exception of July 27 and August 2) from 11pm till the wee hours. The location of our RLD for Alaska is near the Sea View Pool on Deck 9 Aft. We ask all guests to be respectful in regard to cleanliness. Supplies, towels, and trash receptacles will be readily available; please use them. A simple rule to ensure we’re able to continue offering the RLD: if you make a mess, clean it up. Condoms will be available (while supplies last), but you’ll want/need to bring your own lube.

You can learn all about our Red Light District HERE.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Wearing a mask onboard is not required, but if wearing one makes you feel more comfortable, by all means… you do you. We all recognize that each person traveling has their own set of circumstances back home that affect their decision to wear a mask. No one will judge you if you choose to wear one.

A long list of safety protocols is in effect behind the scenes to minimize interruptions to the experience. #AdaptToLive

SMOKING POLICY

At VACAYA, we’ll do our very best to serve both cruisers who smoke and those who don’t. The designated smoking areas onboard Westerdam will be detailed in your daily program, When and Where.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Now that you have your Holland America booking number, do you have a special need related to mobility, stateroom accommodations (such as a shower stool), dietary restrictions, or medical equipment being brought onboard (like a CPAP machine that requires distilled water)?

If so, Holland America has a dedicated department to assist with these requests. Once you’ve completed your online check-in, simply click HERE to fill out Holland America’s online Special Requirements Form. If you need additional help, you can also contact Holland America’s Guest Accessibility Department at +1.800.547.8493 or by email at guestaccessibility@hollandamerica.com.

Holland America asks that you submit any special needs requests as soon as possible after receiving your booking number. While requests can be submitted later, accommodations are not guaranteed, but they’ll do their best to help.

If you’re deaf and in need of an ASL Interpreter on the cruise, please alert VACAYA by emailing info@myvacaya.com.

THERMAL SUITE

Week-long passes to Westerdam’s Thermal Suite will be sold onboard starting at 3pm on July 27. A limited number of passes will be available.

Before you purchase a pass, however, please understand this space…

First and foremost, it’s important to get this most crucial of issues out of the way first: the Thermal Suite is NOT a sanctioned play space. It never has been, and it never will be.

Many guests of all genders pay top dollar for massage treatments in the spa – some of which include Thermal Suite access before/after their session as part of the therapy. Spa workers will be coming in and out of the Thermal Suite non-stop to collect those guests. While certainly relaxing and meditative, this is their workspace. It’s NOT a space for sex.

Now, let’s talk “for reals.” We recognize there’s not a sauna or steam room at any gym on earth where guys don’t do guy things. It’s ubiquitous. But everyone also knows there are consequences to being caught doing sexual acts in those spaces. So just don’t. One thing that separates Vacayans apart from every other group of guests out there is that they’re respectful to each other and to the workers who call Westerdam home. We don’t want the spa workers to have to kick anyone out, but they will. And if you’ve purchased the week-long pass and get kicked out for inappropriate behavior, there are no refunds. You lose access and your money.

So, what are your alternatives? Well, VACAYA has created the largest sanctioned play area in LGBT+ cruising with our Red Light District. So, use it. Or if you’ve found “the love of your life” in the steam room, take them back to your room.

VACAYA is striving to create the most welcoming environment on earth for everyone in our community. To do that, though, we need everyone’s care in recognizing that certain spaces – like the Thermal Suite – will be occupied by men, women, and our non-binary guests, all of whom have paid for a spa experience. Don’t make anyone feel uncomfortable by being lewd. It’s not a good look for you or for VACAYA.

We hope you recognize that VACAYA is extremely progressive in our views on sexual expression, and we believe we’ve proven that we don’t beat around the bush on complex topics. We embrace sex and sexuality enthusiastically, but we also recognize when and where it’s appropriate. It is NOT appropriate in the Thermal Suite.

UNDERSTANDING THE RELEASE OF BOOKING NUMBERS

The release of a cruise line’s Booking Numbers marks the conclusion of a complex, months-long process between VACAYA and our cruise line partner. Your VACAYA team carefully works toward a specific moment – typically 12pm ET, 45 days before sailing – to ensure that all components we’ve coordinated are properly aligned for a seamless experience.

While it might seem simple, turning everything on at once isn’t how this process works. Behind the scenes, each element is carefully built piece by piece, layer by layer, until everything is perfectly in place for the official release.

One key detail: Booking Numbers aren’t generated all at once for every guest. Instead, each guest’s information is entered into the cruise line’s system sequentially, and a Booking Number is generated individually. This process can take days, often concluding just before the 45-day mark. For example, Guest A might receive their number a full week before Guest B, simply because that’s how the system processes each entry.

With standard, non-chartered cruises, this delay typically doesn’t impact guests because they don’t know or interact with each other. However, with a charter cruise, many guests are friends, prior cruising companions, or part of a booking group. When some in a group receive their Booking Numbers early, and others do not, it can cause confusion and an unfair advantage – like jumping the line for excursions, spa treatments, or specialty dining.

The automated nature of the system means some guests might see a notification when their number is generated, but others in their group may not… yet. That’s why the process is designed to be uniform and transparent: all Booking Numbers must be released simultaneously, only after they’ve all been generated.

Additionally, loading excursions, spa packages, and specialty dining reservations is also done in small batches (and in some cases individually, like with our Solo Traveler Excursions) to ensure everything is set up properly and quality assured before the full release.

Since we officially announce the date and time of the Booking Number release (45 days before sailing), we understand the excitement and eagerness to get a head start. But jumping the gun – making bookings before the official release – would give some guests an unfair advantage, accessing prime slots and experiences ahead of others.

To preserve fairness for everyone, Holland America has canceled all bookings (except Spa) made prior to 12pm ET on June 12, 2025 – the official moment when all Booking Numbers are released – and issued refunds for those purchases.

This way, everyone has EQUAL access to all cruise extras, ensuring that the experience is fair, balanced, and in line with our commitment to transparency and integrity.

As always, VACAYA wants to be clear about what goes on behind-the-scenes, so Vacayans understand the Herculean effort involved in coordinating these milestones alongside our cruise line partners. We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work toward making every detail of your vacation perfect.

VACAYA HOSPITALITY DESK

If you need assistance with a VACAYA-related matter, our Hospitality Desk is located on Deck 1 near Guest Services and will be open daily. A detailed schedule will be posted here before our cruise. Opening hours will also appear in your When and Where daily program.

VACAYA UNIVERSITY

WEATHER

UPDATED JULY 22: Looking at the near and long-range forecasts, here’s what you can expect: In Seattle this weekend, highs will be in the low to mid 70s (22-24°C) with partly sunny skies. The areas around Juneau can expect highs in the upper 50s (14°C), lows in the upper 40s (8°C), and some rain (at times heavy) most days. As you begin your final packing, you’ll want to consider the forecast, to be sure; a raincoat or poncho will be your best friend. Also remember… the weather in Alaska can change on a dime (and often does). One thing to keep in mind regarding helicopter excursions in Juneau is that while they’re always weather dependent, the weather on the glacier side of Juneau can be dramatically different from the weather in town. That being said… always have a back-up tour option in all our ports of call in case flight-based excursions get cancelled. Rain or shine, Alaska is a magical place.
